• Excellent in water purification

1. Identification of the Material
Recommended Use: Removal of excessive fluoride in drinking water

2. Material Origin and Physical Properties
Material Origin: Biological Material
Physical State: Solid Sheet
Color: Gray
Solubility: Insoluble in water
Bulk Density: 0.98 g/ml
Particle Size: 0.5mm~1.5mm

3. Toxicological Information
Ingestion: No adverse effects expected
Skin contact: Not expected to be a skin irritant
Eye contact: No an eye irritant. No physical irritation

4. Mechanism
Defluoridation mechanism: The binding of fluoride ion to Ca2+ on NEWDEF® 2 surface while OH- will be released

5. Defluoridation Capacity
defluoridation capacity of NEWDEF® 2 is about 2~5 mg/g which is higher than normal media in the same conditions. The capacity is changed by different raw water quality including fluoride concentration、temperature、co-existing ions etc..

6. Technical Advantages
Ø High capacity and shorter contact time
Ø Safety, no dissolution of toxic and hazardous substances
Ø High efficiency, NEWDEF®2 can remove 99% fluoride of the raw water. Thereby the treated water could be mixed with the raw water in order to reduce the operating costs and extend the operation cycle.
Ø Steady capacity under other ionic competition
Ø Lower regeneration cost and simple regeneration process
Ø Not only for fluoride removal but also can removal of iron and manganese

7. Performance Comparison
Figure 1 and Figure 2 demonstrate that the NEWDEF® media have higher performance than other common
defluoridation materials under the same conditions. The treated water volume of NEWDEF is About 5.09—11.7 times of activated alumina and 12.9—23 times of activated clinoptilolite.

Figure 1.  The volume of water treated by different media under the same conditions, the concentration of fluoride is 6mg/L in raw water

Figure 2.  The volume of water treated by different media under the same conditions, the concentration of fluoride is 2mg/L in raw water

8. Regeneration

MethodConcentrationTimeCostFluoride in waste water

Sodium hydroxide regeneration: It’s an opposite reaction of defluoridation mechanism. OH- replace F- on NEWDEF® 2 surface.
